Janet Farley
Local Artist, Seven Hills and Coochiemudlo Island
Influenced by nature and environmentally focused Janet enjoys capturing Brisbane’s blue skies, the waters of Moreton Bay, endeavouring to convey the vastness of Australia’s land and seascapes through her emotive paintings.
Janet loves the challenge of problem solving during the creative process; this transpires across everything she does. Her inability to limit her artistic endeavours and quell her thirst to experiment with all things art and craft has led her to learn and practice ceramics, pottery, quilling, paper sculpture, folk art, decorative finishes, patchwork, quilting, textile painting, sculpture, weaving, mosaics, drawing and painting. She enjoys working between disciplines and combining techniques across genres. She also enjoys the challenge of up-cycling by using materials of different qualities to make new objects. This interest transfers across to furniture up-cycling, creating and customising new pieces from old discarded furniture.
Janet’s paintings convey a rawness, a slight edginess, and a hand-made look to her paintings. With her love of colour, texture and instinctive sense of scale and proportion her work is bold, graphic and abstractions of reality.
Janet has worked to commission on a wide variety of private projects ranging from wall murals, paintings, ceramics and home furnishings.
“I hope that my work touches and inspires people to appreciate their environment and the people around them. If just one of my paintings reminds you of a beautiful day, evokes a feeling of wonder or makes you curious then I have conveyed my message”.
